Autumn
Always the same, always different
Maize, grapes and quinces are gathered, the mushrooms arrive, and the trees offer a brushstroke of yellows, oranges and ochres.
Just as spring begins in the southern hemisphere, we in the northern hemisphere welcome autumn. At the equinox the poles are the same distance from the sun, and day and night are of equal length.
This year, 2015, autumn began on 23 September and will last 89 days, until winter begins.
It is the season when the maize and the grapes are gathered, and the quinces too, for making jelly; it is mushroom time, with all their variety, and sowing time as well: the land must be prepared for the spring harvest.
The birds begin their migration, and the trees, with the different colours of their leaves, deciduous or evergreen, offer us a brushstroke of varied and unmistakable colours: from the deep green of summer to the yellow, orange and ochres of autumn. It is a singular beauty that returns every year, always the same and always different.
